The city of La Crosse is a community rich in history and also in its ethnic make up. This can be attributed to the Mississippi River and its effect on the early local economy, which drew large amounts of immigrants to the region. |

| Shortly after Nathan Myrick established his trading post on the banks of the Mississippi River British and Irish immigrants began settling in the region.
