Young Learner Programs
Programs for children age 3 through 6 children emphasize “nature play” and encourage awareness and sensory exploration of the environment. Elementary programs help children develop the foundations of ecoliteracy. Upper elementary and middle school programs help students acquire additional knowledge and skills needed to investigate the interface of human and natural communities.

Ages 3-6
- Amazing Animals (All year): Look and learn about animals.
- What’s Going On? (All year): Look at changes in the environment for each season.
Ages 6-7
- Marsh Meander (Apr-Jun): Observing life in the marsh using a variety of different tools.
- Butterflies and Bees (Apr-Jun): Life cycles of bees and butterflies and other insects will be discussed.
Ages 8-9
- What’s That Habitat? (Sept-Oct): Animals and their ways to survive.
- Animal Tracks (Jen-Feb): Tracking animals in their winter environment.
- What Goes Around Comes Around (Apr-Jun): Food Chains, webs, and the connections between them all.
- Recycling is Our Future (All Year): Ways to help our Earth are discussed.
Ages 11-14
- How do Plants Survive? (Sept-Oct): Plant adaptations in prairies and forests are discussed.
- Birds, Birds, Birds! (Jan-Feb): Learn about birds and how they fit into the marsh ecosystem.
- How Do I Get There? (Sept-Oct, Apr-Jun): Navigation skills are learned as well as information on the marsh.
- Pollution is Not Our Friend (All Year): Ways to reduce pollution and how everyone can help.
- Bugs, Bugs, Bugs! (Apr-Jun, Sept-Oct): Learn about bugs!
Ages 15-18
- GPS & Geocaching (Sept-Oct, Apr-Jun): Learn how to use a GPS and complete a geocache.
- Outdoor Antics (Jan-Feb): Nature journaling and winter ecology is learned.
- Energy Saving (All year): Ways to save energy is discussed.
